Re: The Story of Sinuhe, 1900 BC
I am happy to report that Boban Dedović, who has both a deep understanding of Julian Jaynes's theory as well as has learned to read ancient Egyptian at the University of Chicago, has taken a fresh look at this, and he will be doing his thesis on mental language in Sinhue under the supervision of a t...

Re: Consciousness in children
That looks like a good candidate.
It wouldn't be what Jaynes was referring to, as it came much later and not at Princeton, but Phil Zelazo has done research on the development of consciousness in children as they acquire language that very much supports Jaynes's ideas on this.

Re: Does Jaynes have a Neurological Model of Consciousness?
At the time Jaynes wrote his book, the scientific tools necessary to propose a neurological model of consciousness were not yet available, and Jaynes did not speculate on this. Somewhere in a question and answer session The Julian Jaynes Collection he comments on this fact (I will look it up). Moder...

Re: Alphabet vs Goddess: The Conflict Between Word and Image
I read Shlain's book back in 2008, and my memory of it would have to be refreshed. I agree, it does contain some complementary elements, with regards to the impact of literacy on thought. (Along these lines, you may also enjoy Walter Ong's Orality and Literacy: The Technologizing of the Word .) I al...

Re: The Prophet Mohammed, Islam, and the Bicameral Mind
Mohieddin, thank you for your thoughtful comment. I'm glad you've been able to integrate Jaynes's theory into your existing beliefs. That's certainly what Jaynes encouraged. His theory of the origin of consciousness was the most important to him, and he did not want people to be potentially turned o...

Re: Gary Lachman's History of Consciousness
Thank you for the book recommendation. I'd come across this book before, but my initial impression was it was more a review of a variety of other scholar's theories, that the author's scholarship was perhaps somewhat lacking, and that the author subscribes to a variety of more "mystical" v...
